The advent season is drawing ever closer: Countless Christmas markets will be springing up over the next few weeks to sweeten the cold of winter. Only one question remains: Which ones are worth visiting? Where can I find a handmade no-logo gift that will truly bring joy?
When the scent of mulled wine and toasted almonds wafts through the streets, fairy lights twinkle in the darkness, and an auspicious atmosphere of a time when we feel a closer bond with traditions and customs falls upon us – that’s when Sterzing is at its best! The Christmas market season begins on November 24th and the fun in the streets and alleys goes on until 6th January 2018. The Christ Child market with its lovingly decorated wooden huts is held in the main square, where the famed “Zwölferturm” tower seems almost to be watching over the festivities. Here, in the late Middle-Age mountain mine town, another special exhibition lies in store on the history of the mountain mine. A further highlight of Sterzing’s Christmas market is undoubtedly the nativity scene exhibition with handmade exhibits in the Zwölferturm. The various market stalls also offer a wide selection of gift ideas, Christmas decorations, sweet bakes and much more.
